Waiting for Sunday tour blog
|
|
On Sunday we put Dan back to work on the same street corner on Whyte Ave as the night before. Thankfully this time people were A LOT more pleasant(sober). We ended up selling a few more CDs, which is great.
On Sunday night we decided to hit up some open mics. The first show was at Eddie Shorts. The boys played their set then they invited some local musicians on stage to jam. We honestly could not have had anymore fun at this place, everyone was great. Out of the twelve people in the bar seven of them bought our CD!
After Eddie Shorts we went to Obyrnes on Whyte Ave. for their open mic. It was pretty cool, Dan of Ten Second Epic played a set and so did a couple of the guys from the Wheat Pool. All of the artists were awesome, it was great to see some of Edmonton’s local talent. Our Dan played an acoustic set and we called it a night. (some of us went for a walk when we went home and ended up getting lost in a field until about 5 in the morning. But as far as music goes the night was over...).
Monday the boys spent the day jamming and preparing for our show at DV8. DV8 is a local punk/metal bar, it reminded me of Pub 340 and the Pic without zombie crackheads outside. During the opening bands set the police surrounded the building next to ours, looking like they were getting ready for a raid with their guns, it was neat.
The guys had a great set to a very responsive crowd, we ended selling a bunch of underwear, shirts and CDs. The night ended with all of us running through the house we are staying at around 3 in the morning, fighting over the best pasta we have ever had. Highlights included Mircea and Matt locking Dan and I in the garage and Dan running up a staircase trying to eat pasta with his hands with Matt chasing him at full speed. That’s right, we are that mature.
With all of the busking we have been doing Mircea decided to buy a beautiful acoustic bass. Trying to get the band to leave Long and McQuade took the better part of an hour.
Last night we decided to jam at the Sportsmens lounge. They were really nice to us, something that has been very common in Alberta. We are all really amazed at how generous and nice people have been to us here in Alberta. All of us love it here and would love to tour for much longer. It seriously feels like a second home.
We are taking a personal day today and we will probably just end up hanging out with some local friends. Tomorrow we have our show in Calgary at Dickens and then on Saturday we are coming back to Edmonton to play the Brixx with Bill Bourne.
